Experience the raw beauty and transformative energy of the desert through the eyes of renowned Estonian artist Gerda Carina. Her latest exhibition, “Desert”, is now on display at Hestia Hotel Europa in Tallinn from September 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025.

This exhibition is dedicated to the desert – a place that has profoundly influenced the artist’s work and left an indelible mark on her soul. In 2019, she had the opportunity to live in the heart of the desert, to sleep on sand dunes, endure daytime heat of over 50 degrees, and witness falling stars under a low, endless sky. The desert revealed the power of silence and vastness, with every moment unfolding like a scene from a film – surreal yet deeply real.

This experience became the inspiration for the exhibition.

The desert is both harsh and delicate, full of contrasts that are reflected in the works on display. Through an abstract visual language, layered textures, acrylic paint, and 24K gold, the paintings create a surface that is at once luxurious and meditative. Gold symbolizes the burning force of the sun as well as the timeless peace and spirituality inherent in the desert.

Each piece becomes a reflection of inner experience – silence, heat, starlight, and boundless expanse that words can hardly capture. The exhibition does not seek to portray the desert realistically, but rather to convey its emotional and poetic essence. The abstract form allows each viewer to discover their own connection – a moment of stillness, depth, or serenity.

Adding a unique dimension, the collection also features several collaborative works with the artist’s talented relative, Elisabet Lääne. While the central body of work is large-scale and abstract, Elisabet’s strength lies in finely detailed drawing. Her contribution adds an intimate counterpoint, where precision and intricacy meet the vast golden surfaces.

This exhibition is an invitation to enter the silence and austerity of the desert, to experience moments where time stands still, and to discover the oasis within.
